There is a new EPA rule that affects all existing stationary diesel engines, including those used for standby and load management power generation. The rule is called NESHAP for RICE (National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines) or EPA 40 CFR Part 63 Subpart ZZZZ; it was finalized on May 3, 2010.
The rule requires that all stationary diesel engines meet an emission level, which will require some existing diesel generators to be equipped with emission control equipment and will require stringent operational practices be followed. (More information on the rule).
