This year marks the 75th anniversary of CCEC

Read how it all began:

At the beginning of the 20th century, electricity was commonplace in cities across the United States. This was not the case in rural areas. On farms, people continued to work without the luxury of electricity. Everything was done by hand. Investor owned utilities believed it was too expensive to bring electricity to rural areas.

Under the leadership of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) was created. The REA provided financial and engineering assistance to electric cooperatives, like Cass County Electric Cooperative, making possible their success.

The beginning of Cass County Electric Cooperative:

In the mid 1930s a man named Max Strehlow, of the Kindred area, took interest in bringing electricity to the rural areas. Read more in the January issue of Highline Notes.
